(June 26, 2020) – LaBelle, Fla. – Hendry County is requesting public comment in regard to the submission of an application to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) for Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funds for disaster mitigation.
Rebuild Florida Critical Facility Hardening Program
FL DEO has allocated $75 million in Community Development Block Grant - Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funding, to the Rebuild Florida Critical Facility Hardening Program to assist units of general local government and state agencies to harden critical buildings that serve a public safety purpose for local communities.In addition to the previously advertised projects, the County also plans to submit three applications for funds to upgrade and harden critical facilities in the County. The proposed projects are:
- The Montura - Flaghole Volunteer Fire Department (Station 4) in Clewiston;
- The Felda Volunteer Fire (Station 2) in LaBelle, and;
- The Pioneer Plantation Volunteer Fire District (Station 5).
These improvements would allow the County to ensure these public safety buildings are rated for responders to stage or shelter in place during wind events, such as a hurricane. Ensuring that we can stage our first responders in these facilities and allow them to operate at full capacity is critical in the case of a standard emergencies and large events such as hurricanes.
Applications for this program are due to DEO on June 30, 2020.
Any person wishing to make written comments regarding the application should submit them to: email@example.com or mail your comments to:
